SETIzens,
I have had worried emails today from SETI League members all over the
world, and thank you all for your concern. I am pleased to report that
your SETI League staff is all safe and well: Heather and Paul at their
respective homes, and Richard in his office. Although SETI League office
activities may be suspended for a few days, all should return to normal in
due course. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Our sympathies are extended to SE US VolCor Tom Crowley, who lost a
relative on one of the hijacked aircraft, and to all others who suffered
losses in today's tragic events.
	Best wishes,
	Paul

SETIzens,
Even though it is still seven months away, work continues on planning
SETICon02, our second annual Technical Symposium. Much new information
(all still subject to change!) appears on The SETI League website. On the
left-hand side of the main page, click on the SETICon02 banner. Follow the
links if you are planning on attending SETICon02, or submitting a paper for
our Proceedings, or giving a talk, or attending our Awards Banquet.
We are also in need of volunteers to help with SETICon logistics,
planning, and implementation. You need not live in the area, or even
attend, to be of service. Areas currently open include Hotel Liaison,
transportation coordinator, prize committee, hospitality, registration,
Proceedings publication, Banquet speakers, publicity, and entertainment.
Much of this can be coordinated over the internet. And, of course, we
still need good technical talks. Email me if you wish to help out. Thanks.
I look forward to seeing you in New Jersey in April.
	All best, Paul

SETIzens,
This is to inform you all that I am leaving early tomorrow morning for the
International Astronautical Federation meetings in France, and returning to
the US a week later, flying directly to Atlanta for the AMSAT Space
Symposium. I will be presenting papers at both forums, to publicize
Array2k and our Moonbounce Beacon efforts.
My attendance at this year's IAF SETI Committee meetings is especially
important because, due to the present difficulties with international
travel, four of our esteemed colleagues from the SETI Institute (Frank
Drake, Jill Tarter, Kent Cullers and Edna DeVore) will regrettably be
unable to attend. Thus, it falls to The SETI League to be a strong
presence at those meetings, and I will endeavor to represent you
constructively.
My access to email during my travels is uncertain. Thus, if there is any
SETI League business which you feel cannot await my return to work on
October 10, I invite you to communicate with our President, Richard Factor
<rcf@setileague.org> or Secretary, Heather Wood <heather@setileague.org>.
Also, please refrain from sending me email attachments, as doing so may
cause my email box to overflow! Thanks for your understanding and
consideration.
Finally, we have been having some difficulties with telephone service in
The SETI League office (possibly related to the sad events of the past two
weeks). If you can't get through on the usual phone circuits, rest assured
that email has continued to work throughout this period of recovery.
Thank you all for your continued efforts and support. I will report back
on-list upon my return.
	Yours for SETI Success,
	Paul
