Hello to the SETI gang,

In about a week, my wife Lucia and I will be heading out to New Mexico on a
well-earned 'working' vacation. We shall be in the Santa Fe/Albuquerque
area, and as part of our trip, we intend to visit the VLA radio telescope
installation near Socorro. Maybe someone on the list is also planning to
be there around that time, and if so, perhaps a rendevous could be
arranged. Failing that, undoubtedly some of you have been there and might
pass along a tip or two about what to expect. At any rate, I hope to get a
photo or two of one of those antennas!

I'll be outfitted with a mobile 2 meter transceiver for any SETI hams out
there who'd like to chat about the project along the way. It would
certainly make the drive interesting. If so, let me know repeater
frequencies and locations so I can program the rig ahead of time and
hopefully give you a shout when we're in the neighborhood. Of course, they
won't appreciate any QSOs near the VLA itself! Does anyone remember if the
VLA has a restricted zone around it?

Cheers

Hi SETIcens,

Sorry about this oversight of information regarding my trip to New Mexico
and the VLA radio telescope.
For any SETI hams, we are going from Houston to Santa Fe, then to other
points, including the VLA, from there. That should give a rough idea of our
location relative to you.

Cheers

SETIzens,
Jim Van Prooyen <grro@home.com> sends along this message about dishes
available in Michigan:

> We have 6 Scientific-Atlanta Model 8008, 5 meter diameter dish antennas
for sale. The asking price is $1,000.00 for one or $1,500 for two dish's. We
have a total of 6 dish's of this type. We also have the installation manual
and
a full set of drawings. All dish's appear to be in good shape, no rust, no
bent metal, may need some paint.

>We also have some larger dish's that may need homes. If you have any
interest please call me as soon as you can.

Dear Moonbounce fans,
The SETI League Moounbounce Beacon web page at
<http://www.setileague.org/eme/setimoon.htm> has recently been updated.
Look for the links to lots of new pictures, and a status report right at
the top of the page. Please take a look, and pass this on to other EME'ers.
I regret that we are off the air at the moment, but will report to you
just as soon as we re-activate the beacon.

SETIZens,
Those of you who attended SETICon01 in April are aware that for 2002, we
have added a day to our Technical Symposium. This gives us time for more
papers, more presentations, and more dialog between SETI League members.
But to be included in the SETICon02 program, you need to go through the
formalities announced in our Call For Papers, at
<http://www.setileague.org/admin/meet2002.htm>.
Anyone wishing to present a paper at SETICon02 needs to start by sending
me a 100 word abstract. Although the deadline for Abstracts is not until
30 September, these dates have a way of creeping up on us. The sooner you
get your ideas in to me, the better are the chances that you will be
included in the final program. Start thinking about what interesting
things you've been doing in the SETI universe (hardware, software, optics,
planet hunting, radio astronomy, search strategies, philosophy, ham
microwave, moonbounce, whatever), and drop me an email ASAP. I look
forward to having a rich program of presentations next April, and hope
you'll be on it.
	Yours for SETI Success,
	Paul

SETIzens,
Forwarded FYI. These dishes are located in Myrtle Beach SC USA. 6 and 8
foot dishes are certainly usable for radio astronomy and SETI! Feel free
to contact Ms. Smith if interested.

>Santee Cooper is a public utility. We have replaced most of our microwave
radio system; therefore, we have several used 6' and 8' solid and mesh
parabolic dishes. Do you know of anyone that would be interested in these?
I hate to landfill them.
