On June 21, during the night of the Summer Solstice, a nearly full Moon
shone brightly for all the inhabitants of Earth to see as it appeared to
slowly move across the sky.
Sadly, the same could not be said for the solar sail satellite named Cosmos
1, which had been launched on that very first day of summer from a Russian
nuclear submarine atop a converted intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)
in the Barents Sea near the Arctic Circle.
