Here are a few links related to this subject. Translation presumably would
be a major issue in contacting E.T.: our 850+ languages and their 850 (or
however many) languages would be a problem, for example. Having an official
world auxiliary language would be helpful. The United Nations has six
"official languages": English, French, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Russian.
English, to a certain extent, has evolved into a de facto world
auxiliary/second language. Creating materials needed to teach English, or
other languages, to E.T. would be an interesting challenge, but I don't
know what, if any, progress has been made in that area, or what the
unsolved problems may be(?).
