    Science/Astronomy:

    * 'Super Earth' Discovered at Nearby Star
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/super_earth_040825.html>

    European astronomers have discovered one of the smallest planets known outside our solar system, a world about 14 times the mass of our own. It could be a rocky planet with a thin atmosphere, a sort of "super Earth," the researchers said today.

    * Spitzer Space Telescope: A Great First Year
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/spitzer_update_040825.html>

    A year after its launch from Cape Canaveral, the Spitzer Space Telescope is unveiling the invisible: leftovers of stellar explosions, nurseries where stars are born, and the innards of the Milky Way.

    * Backyard Telescope Helps Find New Planet
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/exoplanet_transit_040824.html>

    With the help of a modified backyard telescope, astronomers have discovered a giant planet orbiting another star. It is the first extrasolar world found with such modest equipment.

    * Scientists Seek Scent of Life in Methane at Mars
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/mars_methane_040824.html>

    Sniffing out any whiff of biology on Mars has become a scientific battle of the bands - spectral bands that is.

    * Glowing Results: Rampant Star Birth Left Universal Imprint
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/spitzer_galaxies_040824.html>

    There's an intriguing glow across the universe that astronomers have been trying to pin down for years. Recent observations appear to have found the source: compact galaxies in the early universe that were generating stars at a furious pace.

    * Exploded Star Detailed in New X-ray Image
    http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/chandra_cassa_040823.html>

    The Chandra X-ray Observatory has re-imaged a familiar scene of a relatively nearby exploded star, revealing new details of the chaotic aftermath.

    * Image of the Day: When Mars Thaws Out
    http://www.space.com/imageoftheday/image_of_day_040825.html>

    Mars yields more truly strange pictures than any other planet beyond our own. This one is a doozy.

    -----------------------------------

    Spaceflight:

    * Sky Capture: How NASA Will Bring Genesis Down to Earth
    http://www.space.com/businesstechnology/genesis_techwed_040824.html>

    An experienced team of pilots, engineers and scientists are relying on a reinforced skydiving parachute and a helicopter's hook to safely return the first samples from space since the Apollo era. Riding aboard the Genesis sample return capsule, the spacecraft is set to arrive above Utah on Sept. 8.

    * Faulty Space Suit Repaired by ISS Crew
    http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/exp9_spacesuit_fix_040824.html>

    The crew of the International Space Station (ISS) has apparently fixed one of two malfunctioning space suits plagued with cooling system problems.

    * Europeans Learn from Lost Beagle 2 Mars Probe
    http://www.space.com/news/beagle2_report_040824.html>

    The British team that built the space probe for Europe's doomed mission to Mars conceded Tuesday that any future ventures to the Red Planet should have better funding and detection systems for potential problems.

    * Discovery Makes Headway Toward March Launch
    http://www.space.com/missionlaunches/sts114_update_040824.html>

    Efforts to ready the space shuttle Discovery for flight are gathering steam as NASA engineers passed key milestones for both the spacecraft and its rocket boosters.

    * Astronotes: Hands-on Satellite Teaching Tool
    http://www.space.com/astronotes/astronotes.html>

    There is nothing like hands-on practice before the satellite you're running is out of reach, orbiting high above Earth.

    * NEW! Daily Space Trivia

    One of Today's 5 New Questions: Where were the first seven astronauts based when they joined NASA?

    * REVIEW: The Village
    http://www.space.com/entertainment/village_review.html>

    Anybody watching the first two-thirds of the film might wonder how the film could engender such extreme complaints - okay, the dialogue is on the stilted side and the pace is a bit leisurely, but there is plenty of atmosphere and tension. Once the first of the story's big secrets is revealed, however, doubts will arise in most viewers' minds, and when an even bigger twist is revealed, few will be willing to go along with it.

    * SPOTLIGHT: ALIEN VS. PREDATOR Trailer Now Online
    http://www.space.com/entertainment/spotlight.html>

    If you need a new dose of duelling extraterrestrials, then you should be informed that Apple is hosting the exclusive internet trailer for ALIEN VS. PREDATOR.

    * Review: I, Robot
    http://www.space.com/entertainment/irobot_review.html>

    The puzzle aspect of I, ROBOT is its most compelling feature. The structure is strong and we genuinely do not guess exactly what is going on right away, although the clues are laid out for us fairly. Another bonus is Smith's performance, which is intelligent and charismatic enough to carry us along even over the rough patches.

    * Review: Spider-Man 2
    http://www.space.com/entertainment/spiderman2_review.html>

    One of the catchphrases of the SPIDER-MAN universe is "With great power comes great responsibility." The financial success of the first film gave Raimi and Co. great power - here they use it to fulfill their responsibilities to both their material and their audience wonderfully well.

    * How Close Is Real Science To Doc Ock-Style Superlimbs?
    http://www.space.com/entertainment/science_spiderman2.html>

    How close are we really to fusing together man and machine? Could robot tentacles, arms or legs really be wielded with a thought? The control is the real science fiction.
