The MESSENGER spacecraft launched into space early this morning. It then began a long seven-year journey to Mercury, an incredibly dense world that may have withered in the heat of the sun.
Virtual Mars
As Mars mission planners begin to look at the next major launch opportunity, the public can access a virtual planet that shares the same mapping software as what the scientists use. The Mars' Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) is slated for launch in August of 2005.
