SPACE WEATHER ADVISORY OUTLOOK #03- 42
2003 October 21 at 03:44 p.m. MDT (2003 October 21 2144 UTC)
**** SPACE WEATHER OUTLOOK ****
Summary For October 13-19
Moderate to strong space weather storms were observed during the past
week. Moderate (G2) and strong (G3) geomagnetic storm periods occurred
on 14 and 15 October due to high speed solar winds from a large coronal
hole. Occasional minor (G1) geomagnetic storm periods were observed
through the remainder of the period. A strong (R3) radio blackout
occurred on 19 October at 1629 UTC due to a solar flare that occurred
in a very large active sunspot group. This sunspot group also produced
occasional minor (R1) radio blackouts on the 19th.
Outlook For October 22-28
Space weather for the next week will likely reach moderate to high
levels. Further radio blackouts are possible. One or more
considerably active sunspot groups are expected to produce R1 through
R3 activity. There is also a small chance for a radiation storm if
these active regions continue to produce large flares. Occasional
Category G1 or G2 geomagnetic storm periods are expected early in the
period as high speed solar winds continue from a large coronal hole.
Geomagnetic storms are also possible later in the period if eruptions
continue in the active regions mentioned above.
