Subject: AstroAlert: POSSIBLE JUNE BOOTID (IOTA-DRACONID) OUTBURST JUNE 27
The following message concerning the June Bootids is forwarded from Dr.
Peter Jennsikens:
POSSIBLE JUNE BOOTID (IOTA-DRACONID) OUTBURST JUNE 27
On June 27, around 19:30 UT, observers in the Middle-East,
south-eastern Europe, and southern parts of Asia may be able
to detect some meteoroids originating from comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke.
The shower radiates from Bootes, north of the main constellation
at RA = 224, DEC = +48 at apparent speeds of 18 km/s.
D.J. Asher and V.V. Emel'yanenko (MNRAS 331, 1998, 126)
calculated that the meteoroids seen in 1998 (trapped in the 1:2
mean-motion resonance with Jupiter) might be seen again this
year, but more likely so next year. Of particular interest will
be records of shower activity and meteor brightness during the
period from June 27, 18 - 21 UT.
