It basically violates the principle that signals be easily detectable and
decodeable without prior knowledge of the structure. In my view spread
spectrum techniques will never be used for a pilot signal, but only after
instructions have been sent and enough time to construct the decoder has
been allowed.

I don't see how this increases signal energy.
