Subject: Re: UFO images from SOHO deemed fake
Hi-- I have been getting quite a bit of email about this,
surprise surprise. Actually, there have
been people claiming to see things in SOHO images for years.
A lot of it is pretty laughable: they see bloomed CCD pixels and
claim it's a UFO. Cosmic ray hits are another big one with these
people. Instead of simply picking up a phone and calling a
scientist, they make these ridiculous claims; and when they
do talk to a scientist they disbelieve him/her.
I wrote an essay on this and posted it on my bulletin board:

and a followup discussion is here:

There are indeed a lot of odd SOHO images, with some things
in them I couldn't immediately explain. I wound up calling a friend
who works on SOHO and finding out what was going on. I talk about
this in that first link above.
The people making these claims *want* to see UFOs everywhere they
look. Any explanation that doesn't involve alien spaceships is
denounced as a lie or coverup. It's a very frustrating field
to be in.
