-- NASA Scientists Create Amino Acids in Deep-Space-Like Environment
http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=7872

A team of scientists including SETI Institute and NASA researchers have
announced the successful creation of amino acids, chemicals essential to
life, in a laboratory simulation of conditions found in deep space. At
NASA's Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA, the team reproduced the
freezing conditions that exist in the gigantic interstellar clouds of dust,
gas, and ice that are the birthplaces of new stars and planetary systems.

-- Astronomers Discover a New Class of Objects in Two Nearby Galaxies
http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewpr.html?pid=7867

Astronomers searching for globular star clusters in a nearby galaxy have
discovered an entirely new class of objects, unlike anything previously
described. Much larger and fainter than typical globular clusters, the new
objects were first detected in Hubble Space Telescope images of the
lenticular galaxy NGC 1023. They may hold clues to how galaxies of this
type formed.

Beginning March 27, 2002, recent images of Mars taken by the Thermal
Emission Imaging System on NASA's Mars Odyssey spacecraft will be available
to the public on the Internet. A new, "uncalibrated" image taken by the
visible light camera will be posted at 10 A.M. EST daily, Monday through
Friday.
