Well for what it's worth this is my idea for the future of seti in the
twenty first century,

If the Amateur Radio fraternity world wide can put Satellites into orbit
for radio communication purposes (AMSAT). Then why can we not put up our own
Radio Telescope!!!
This is the way ahead as I see it.

We ( the Seti League ) have the core organisation and technical know-how to
develop and install ( with the help of some good Samaritan, say NASA or The
European Space Agency ) our very own Radio Telescope in Earth orbit.
This Telescope could be used solely for seti and could in theory be used by
all who contribute to its build and installation.

The signals received by the dish could be sent back to Earth directly by
radio or via the Internet ( from say,
The Seti League Headquarters with suitable equipment ).
The receiving equipment on Earth ( at each persons home ) could take the
form of a suitable receiver, or computer with a suitable sound card the
software would have to be under the control of the "League" ( so we have a
large membership core to financially support the project ).

The Seti League would be responsible for the overall administration and
development of the project from our headquarters at Little Ferry.
Membership could be reduced to say, ten Dollars annually ( we would have
thousands of members, not just hundreds.

Just imagine, a twenty four foot dish and all the electronics and mechanics
in Earth orbit way above all the noise and clutter from ground based,
man-made interference.
We would have many hundreds ( maybe thousands of listeners at any one time
looking and analysing the data so there would be no need for any doubt as
regards the signals origins and content ).

Those in the Seti league who wish to continue on the basis of having their
own Earth bound system could do so and still contribute to the "Earth Orbit
Survey".

I know this is looking in the long term but, I reckon given the motivation
and the will to succeed we could do it in the next ten years or so.
