I tried the screen blanking option someone suggested yesterday. I must
admit that I was sceptical, because I have my energy star monitor set to go
to standby and to power down automatically anyway.

However, after a moment's thought, it seems obvious that the computer will
still be writing to the video memory anyway. Selecting the screen banking
option eliminates this process.

The result--a 66% improvement (from 1 to 3 per cent per hour) on my 166
pentuim. My 233 improved by 33%, but is now no faster than the improved
166.

Hmmmmm.

Screen blanking is highly recommended. Thanks to whoever made the
suggestion!
