According to the SETI Institute, the whole story is a hoax.  The star cited
isn't even visible to Project Phoenix at this time of year:

is at right ascension 13h 45m, and is
a Spring object for Project Phoenix.
Indeed, we observed it in late
March and early April of this year
(but didn't find any extraterrestrial
signals). On the early morning of
November 29, we were observing
HD100180, not HD119850.
