SGR 1900+14 maybe a magnetar only 26000 light years from Earth.
A magnetar is a special class of neutron stars that produce an
estimated 500 trillion gauss magnetic field. This magnetic field is
disrupted when star quakes occur releasing high energy gamma
rays. This information was reported in a August 1998 circular of
the International Astronomical Union following a similar report in the
May 21 issue of Nature.
Gabe Velez had suggested to me many months ago the advantage of
using local magnetic fields like Jupiter's or the Sun's and modulating them
with a low power signal. Consider the advantage of modulating
