John,

The numbers I heard:

80xxx PC based systems -

54% use C or C++ (BCC, VC, WatCom, GNU, WhiteSmith)
25% use, Assembler, ADA, Modula, Forth, ForTran, Lisp, Smalltalk,
Parts, DataBoss, PowerBuilder, and etc.
12% use VB(Access-professional DB programmers & misc)
09% use Delphi(Pascal) (professional DB & Instrument [aerospace])

Yes, that was my point at the beginning of the stonesoup group. But
I lost
the argument. Basically, VB 6.0 can be compiled, and it is not that
slow anymore. Anyway, you can easily call external modules to speed it
up. When the system is working and stable, we will be doing
benchmarking and speedups as time goes on.

The bottom line is that the stonesoup software is being written in
VB. You
or I have no control over that now. It is written in stone, hehe, pun
intended.
