I don't mean to be disrespectful, but I do have a few questions.
SETI means; Search For Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
This is the goal of SETI. So the excitement of a possible signal should be
very profound. With SETI's goal being the same as many amateur astronomers
I can see the concern if a hoax does exist, but in the same aspect I feel
there should also be a degree of excitement even if an amateur does discover
As SETI is privately funded, does this have any bearing on the degree of
information that is revealed to the public? Does SETI still have the 72
hour guide line in case a signal is discovered?
The reason why I ask these question is simply to find out.
Nothing more, nothing less. If SETI does hear a report from an amateur
astronomer do you check for verifcation as soon as possible? If the
verifcation is done, when does the general public get notification of the
results? Is the public permitted to see the results in all cases?
One other point.
As SETI searches for extraterrestrial signals have you consider any other
type of communication avenue? Does SETI feel that with "The Drake Equation"
it would be inevitable that a Extraterrestrial Signal be discovered,
considering that is your goal?
I hope you don't take these questions as an insult. People are quite
concerned because of the constant debunking of every signal no matter who
