39th MEETING OF THE DIVISION FOR PLANETARY SCIENCES, ORLANDO, FLORIDA, 8-12
October 2007
Media representatives are cordially invited to the 39th Meeting of the
Division for Planetary Sciences (DPS) of the American Astronomical
Society being held in Orlando, Florida, during 8-12 October 2007. The
meeting is being hosted by Dr. Dan Britt of the University of Central
Florida and will be held at the Rosen Center Hotel (9840 International
Drive, Orlando, Florida 32819, 1-800-204-7234). Over 800 planetary
scientists from the US and Europe and worldwide will be attending this
meeting.
Papers presented at the meeting and the Press briefings will feature:
- Results from the New HORIZONS Jupiter Fly-by in February 2007
- Results from the MESSENGER spacecraft fly-by past Venus in June 2007
- Results from ESA’s Venus Express mission operating since April 2006
- Latest about Saturn and Titan from CASSINI
- Recent highlights from Mars
- The Future of Near Eearth Object Searches
- The Latest Results in the Search for Extra-Solar Planets
- New Results on the YORP Effect on Small Bodies
Information about the meeting, including the full scientific program, is

approximately one week before the meeting. Briefings will be held during
the lunch and perhaps the morning or afternoon coffee breaks, allowing
plenty of time to attend the oral and poster sessions.
Access to the conference is free to accredited media, but you must register
with the
DPS Press Officer, Sanjay Limaye (SanjayL_at_ssec.wisc.edu

to cover the meeting and media briefings by Thursday, September 27,
2007. A badge will be provided to you at the conference registration
desk and will be required to cover the meeting, access the media room
and the briefing room.

- Working press employed by recognized news media or an introduction
letter by the Editor of any relevant publication.

Please note that a workshop for scientists on “How to Talk to the Press”
will be conducted by experienced media representatives from Sky &
Telescope, Nature and the BBC Radio on Sunday, October 8, 2007 between 1
and 3 pm. In case you wish to attend and offer your thoughts, you MUST
register with the DPS Press Officer first to ensure that there is enough
space available.
