An E-Postcard of Our Home Planet

America the Beautiful

Just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July, this new natural-color image shows off the splendors of North America. In addition to the contiguous United States, the scene spans from British Columbia in the northwest to Newfoundland in the northeast, and extends eastward to the lonely Bermuda Islands and southward to the Bahamas, Cuba and Mexico.

The image combines data from the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer instrument on NASA's Terra satellite and the joint NASA/National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Shuttle Radar Topography Mission and other sources.
