Don't Listen to Those Pesky Scientists

Why science adviser John Marburger's defense of the Bush administration's science policies fails.

    Chris Mooney<http://www.csicop.org/doubtandabout/>; April 8, 2004

Well, John Marburger has gone and done it. In an action that will probably come to define his tenure as presidential science adviser, he's released a detailed report<http://www.ostp.gov/html/ucs.html> attempting to debunk highly publicized charges<http://www.ucsusa.org/global_environment/rsi/report.html> by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) that Bush administration has systematically abused science. Marburger's report is labeled a "Response to Congress," so I doubt we've heard the last of this matter.

As I've argued previously<http://www.csicop.org/doubtandabout/sciencewars/>, Marburger had little chance of succeeding in this attempted rebuttal. And sure enough, now that we can read the document that his office has produced, it clearly leaves a great deal to be desired.
