Subject: Tupann Patera activity from Keck AO observation
Dear IOPW-satellite members,
Here a report of recent Keck AO observations of Io from Gibbard et al.
****************************
S. Gibbard, I. de Pater, D. Le Mignant and F. Marchis report the
detection of a bright eruption in the vicinity of Tupann Patera. The
observations were obtained on 08 March 2003 (UT) with the Keck AO
system at a wavelength of 3.8 micron. Preliminary results suggest that
the source is located at 15.6+/-6.8S and137.1+/-5.4W, close to Tupann
Patera. The brightness is estimated to 18 GW/sr/micron (after applying
a cos law correction factor).
Detection was successful in M-band (4.7 micron) and marginal in K-band
(2.2 micron), indicative of temperatures over 800 K.
The data have not (yet) been deconvolved.
In addition to Tupann, other fainter volcanic sources can be
distinguished on the image.
