    MARS GLIDES BETWEEN TWO NEBULAE

On Wednesday and Thursday morning Mars glides between a close pair of
nebulae in the constellation Sagittarius -- the Lagoon (M8) and the much
dimmer Trifid (M20). Take a look with large binoculars or a wide-field
telescope before the very first light of dawn. Here's a chart showing the
path of Mars during the next few days.

    LARGE SUNSPOT VISIBLE

After weeks of having a blemish-free face, the Sun now sports a giant
spot. Known as active region 10296, the sunspot is so large that it's
visible without magnification -- all you need to see it is a sunny day and
a safe solar filter. Discover more about sunspots and safe solar viewing

    COMET NEAT FADING

Comet NEAT (C/2002 V1)is now visible low in the west-southwest shortly
after sunset for observers in the Southern Hemisphere. The comet is
currently a naked-eye object, but it's fading fast.
