Subject: [lunar-update] China sets its sights on the Moon

    Good evening.

Andrew in the UK sent me this link about China's interest in the Moon.

    ----
China going to the moon by 2020 reported by the BBC on the 03rd dec

China sets its sights on the Moon
    By Dr David Whitehouse
    BBC News Online science editor
China has outlined plans to land a man on the Moon by 2020, the country's
chief space official said in comments broadcast on state television.
"By 2020, we will achieve visiting the Moon," remarked Luan Enjie, director
of the Chinese National Aerospace Bureau.
Translators said that Luan used a verb that specifically describes a human
    mission to the Earth satellite.
He said it would follow the launch of a probe to orbit the Moon by 2007 and
an unmanned lunar landing by 2010.

With that thought in mind and the new found GOOGLE News Service, asked for a
daily list of News Items with 'China Moon Mission' as the key words and I
    got my first report.
(I have also started one that has 'India Moon Mission' for key words -
    LRK -)
    I will copy it below.
The very first link if you open it has a quiz asking if you think the US
should shoot for the Moon again. You might like to try it and see what the
    results are. - LRK -
The larger question might include should there be a quest for planets
further out and the Moon just be a stepping stone or even a parallel event.
You might like to read what Bob Zubrin had to say when he gave a deposition
in congress. (If you listen to his talk you can hear one excited person
that reminds me of a caged tiger trying to get out of Earth's cage and
spring to Mars. - LRK -)

    October 31, 2003- UPDATED!!
On the invitation of Senator John McCain (R-AZ), Mars Society president
Robert Zubrin presented testimony to the full Senate Commerce Committee on
the subject of the future of the US space program. Audio and links to video
files are available, as is a .PDF file of Bob's testimony.
Radio Free Mars will also be playing Dr. Zubrin's comments on a regular
    schedule.
A summary of the meeting is also available.
    ------------
There are some links about going to Mars on my Mars page that I added from
    the Scientific American Magazine.
Now if we doubled the size of this lunar-update list, I could numb more
readers with more links than you have time to open. :-)
