Subject: [lunar-update] Google News Alert - India Moon Mission
One more time.
The Google News Alert - India Moon Mission report came.
I read.
I saw......
Different news agencies, reporting with different twists on a report, and
then you see mentioned what goes to the Moon, can go closer to home, and
doesn't need to carry a satellite.
If you choose to look at some of these links (and some have been mentioned
before) you can lay a political filter on top of them and read what you want
to read. (like putting one of those red film decoder lenses on your
favorite hidden red text to see the secret word.)
So will there be a new race to the Moon, my booster can do it too, because
you want to read the Moon, or just because you want to be part of the big
booster club? How do you read this?
Now if you are back in the USA do you share the top of the sand pile with
your neighbors?
A snip from the first link. - LRK -

India masters rocket technology for moon mission, says agency
2003-12-07 / Associated Press /
India's space agency says it has mastered the rocket technology needed to
launch high-altitude satellites and send a man to the moon.
The technology also can be used to deliver a nuclear-capable
intercontinental ballistic missile, scientists say.
The cryogenic engine, which uses liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, was
successfully fired for 1,000 seconds on the ground, exceeding the 721
seconds required for space flights, the Indian Space Research Organization
said in a statement Friday.
"The long-duration test conducted today marks the conclusion of the
qualification of the cryogenic engine," the statement said.
The successful test was the final of several trials needed to prove the
engine's capability, and puts India in a league with the United States,
Russia, France, Japan and China as the only countries able to build
cryogenic engines.

India develops rocket engine needed to launch long-range missiles, first
moon mission
ASSOCIATED PRESS
BANGALORE, India, Dec. 5 — India said Friday it has developed a rocket
engine that uses supercooled liquid fuel, a technology that would allow it
to launch high-altitude satellites, send a man to the moon — or build
intercontinental ballistic missiles.

NOW WHY DO YOU WANT TO GO TO THE MOON, MARS, AND BEYOND?????? :-)

Just one more observation. The mission Clementine to the Moon (wanted to go
further as well) took many, many images of the Moon with the newest,
smallest instruments for whose test? - LRK -

The Deep Space Program Science Experiment (DSPSE), the first of a series of
Clementine technology demonstrations jointly sponsored by the Ballistic
Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) and the National Aeronautics and Space
Administration (NASA ), launched in early 1994. Its principal objective is
to space qualify lightweight imaging sensors and component technologies for
the next generation of Department of Defense (DoD) spacecraft. The
Clementine mission uses the Moon, a near-Earth asteroid, and the
spacecraft's Interstage Adapter (ISA) as targets to demonstrate lightweight
component and sensor performance. As a secondary mission, Clementine returns
valuable data of interest to the international civilian scientific sector
It represents a new class of small, low cost, and highly capable spacecraft
that fully embrace emerging lightweight technologies to enable a series of
long-duration deep space missions.
