Subject: AstroAlert: List of all observed asteroidal occ'ns - please check, esp. 2002
I have updated the list of all observed asteroidal occultations
known to me - please check it for errors, especially to see if I've
left anything out. You can find it at
http://iota.jhuapl.edu/mpocc1.txt - it is a plain ASCII text
file that you must view and print with a small fixed-space font
such as Courier for the columns to line up, and to try to prevent
wrapping - using landscape rather than portrait mode helps (and is
really needed) to minimize or prevent line wrapping. Rather than
this file, you might try a shorter one that includes only the 2002
and 2003 observations that is attached - it doesn't have as many
columns so it is a little easier to view and print.
I am most interested in the events for 2002 since I will soon be
writing an article about those observations for Sky and Telescope;
it was a record year, with about 68 observed events (but already
this year we have 55). Plots are being prepared of the observations
of all events with 3 or more observations, and those with 2
observations if the two chords are reasonably separated so that
a circle can be fit to them. In a couple of weeks, I will be
posting all of the observations as well (at least for the 2002 events,
and probably the earlier ones) for checking.
