OIL FIRES IN IRAQ
This high-resolution (15-meter) Terra ASTER image shows thick, black smoke plumes over Baghdad on March 31, 2003. The plumes are likely from burning pools of oil.

GLACIAL COLLAPSE THREATENS HUARAZ, PERU
A chunk of glacier is threatening to fall into an Andean lake and could cause major flooding in a Peruvian city of 60,000 residents. This high-resolution Terra ASTER image of the glacier was acquired on Nov. 5, 2001.
